Agartala Dec 06: Tripura BJP leaders including Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha paid glorious tributes to the father of the Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar on his 67th death anniversary here on Tuesday.
To commemorate Ambedkar’s memory and uphold the values he strongly believed in, BJP Tapshili Jati Morcha, Tripura Pradesh organized a “Padyatra” to mark the occasion.
Earlier, Tripura chief minister Dr Manik Saha along with AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, TIDC Chairman Tinku Roy and other Pradesh BJP leaders paid floral tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar in front of the state BJP Headquarters in Krishnanagar, Agartala.
Speaking on the occasion, chief minister Dr Manik Saha said, “December 6 is observed as Mahaparinirvan Diwas, the death anniversary of father of Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar”.
Paying his humble tributes Dr Sah added, “As the chief architect of Indian Constitution and as a social reformer, he dedicated his life to uphold the ideals of social justice and equality”.
His life and principles would always be a guiding light, he added.
“Fondly known as Babasaheb, he fought for the economic and social empowerment of Dalits in the country, eradicating the social scourge of untouchability and promoting gender equality”, said Chief Minister DR Manik Saha.
The chief minister further urged upon the youths of the state to acquire knowledge about the life history of Dr BR Ambedkar adding that his ideologies and life journey will guide to progress.
In a separate program, Sushanta Chowdhury, Minister of Information and Cultural Affairs paid tribute to Dr. BR Ambedkar on his 67th death anniversary.
The minister garlanded the statue of Ambedkar in front of Ujjayanta Palace in the heart of capital city in presence of MLA Dilip Das, MLA Rebati Das, MLA Krishnadhan Das and other dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Sushanta Chowdhury said, “We are committed to fulfill the dream that DR BR Ambedkar dreamed for the country and its people”.
Born on April 14, 1981, Babasaheb Ambedkar was an Indian jurist, economist, political and social reformer who campaigned against social discrimination towards the untouchables (Dalits) and supports the rights of women and workers. He dies on December 6, 1956.
In 1990, Ambedkar was conferred with Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award.
