Agartala, Aug 27: Grappling with financial hardships, the workers and pensioners of the Tripura Jute Mill under the banner of Tripura Chatkal Sramik Union on Tuesday held ‘Mahakaran Abhiyan’ to meet in deputation with the secretary of the state revenue department over resolving the revised pay scale dues.
The agitating workers and pensioners of Tripura Jute Mill, who were on their march toward the secretariat, were stopped by the police infront of Gandhi statue here at Agartala Circuit House.
The representatives of the agitating jute mill workers and pensioners expressed their concern over the delay of the pay due. They said that the workers and pensioners of Tripura Jute Mills are grappling with severe financial hardships, due to prolonged deprivation and the root cause of this crisis lies in the unpaid salaries and allowances, which is due as per the recommendations of the 4th Pay Commission, and which was to be implemented from January 1, 1996.
They further said that, despite numerous legal victories, the workers’ rights and claims remain unsettled, leading to escalating tensions.
The court directed the State Government and the Tripura Jute Mill Authority to implement the 4th Pay Scale for all employees who were on the payroll as of January 1, 1996. This directive included provisions for increased salary, gratuity, and leave-salary benefits, all to be settled within six months. However, despite the court’s clear orders, the implementation has been fraught with delays and legal battles, they said.
