Agartala Dec 10: Accompanied by a team of top officials including education minister Ratan Lal Nath, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, Tripura chief minister Dr Manik Saha on Saturday visited Kshetra Mohan Academy, an age-old school in Shantipara area of the capital.
Reportedly, the old school was shut down at the time of Left rule and has gradually turned into an abandoned place, but the locals have been demanding renovation of the school for the development of the area.
Based on the demand, the chief minister assured that the school will be started after laying the foundation stone of the construction work at the earliest.
Speaking to the reporters, the chief minister said, “Since my childhood days I heard about this school. Many doctors and engineers pursued their education here”.
The chief minister alleged that the previous left front government did not take appropriate care of the school following which it was shut down.
“When we used to do club, we ourselves contributed money for small renovation works, but the earlier government did nothing to maintain the school”, he said.
The chief minister added that complying with the demands of the locals in the area it has been decided to renovate the school completely.
“The Kshetra Mohan School will be newly constructed and renovated as an English Medium School for the betterment of the people in the area”, said the chief minister.
He added, “The engineers have been asked to make a proper plan so that the school can be extended to Higher Secondary level in the coming days”.
Tripura chief minister instructed the officials of the concerned department for all-round infrastructure development and renovation of Kshetra Mohan Academy.
The decision taken by the chief minister and concerned department has been welcomed by the intellectuals of the society.
