Agartala, Nov 20: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday said that drama is a mirror of society and it reflects various aspects of human life.
“Drama is an important medium to move forward the society in the right direction,” said Dr. Saha.
He said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the state-level Natya Utsav 2023 at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala today.
In the state-level Natya Utsav organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs department, 21 teams will participate across the state.
“This initiative will undoubtedly encourage the new generation to engage in practicing drama. Drama is a powerful social medium; it is a mirror of society. We watch and enjoy dramas, and sometimes we say that the earth is the stage where we are all dramatists. Drama reflects society, and it can help in guiding society in a positive direction,” said Dr. Saha.
He suggested that if dramatists perform plays addressing issues like drug abuse, cleanliness, and against the dowry system across the state, it will create awareness and be beneficial for society.
In his speech, Dr. Saha also recalled his college days when he played in a drama that secured the first position.
“Even during the emergency period, I participated in a drama. In our youth, Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan used to host many dramas. We would come here to watch and enjoy them. Drama is a matter of thirst. The Information and Cultural Affairs department is making efforts to revive the culture of drama,” he added.
During the program, Director of ICA, Bimbisar Bhattacharya, Veteran dramatist Nani Deb, Vice Chairman of the advisor Committee of State-level Natya Utsav Subrata Chakraborty, and others were present.
