Agartala Jul 08: As a token of respect and courtesy, Tripura government on Saturday has sent 700 pineapples of Kew variety to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Speaking in this context, Director Horticulture Department Phani Bhushan Jamatia said, “Tripura is known for its juicy pineapples. Presently there are two different varieties; Queen and Kew, that are grown in vast areas of the state and are also exported outside”.

“The chief minister of Tripura, Dr Manik Saha is sending the gift consignment of at least 700 pieces of Kew variety of pineapple in 100 boxes for Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina”, he said.

Meanwhile, the representative from the Bangladesh High Commission office who also remained present at the Akhaura Check Post said, “The goodwill gesture by the Tripura chief minister will further strengthen the friendship and long-standing ties between the two countries”.

“On behalf of the Bangladesh government, I thank the Tripura government and the chief minister for this noble gesture”, he added.

While handing over the gift consignment at Akhaura Integrated check post, representatives of both the countries hoped that a further improvement in import-export and other sectors will be seen between both the countries in coming days.
