Tripura HC: Village Committee Elections to be completed by November

Agartala July 19: Tripura High Court on Tuesday has ordered the State Election Commission to complete the Village Committee Election by November 2022.
Adv. Antony Debbarma while speaking to the media in this regard said, “The State Election Dept and State Govt’s intention is not to conduct the election to the Village Committees and thus the state gave an excuse of Durga Puja festival for delay of the polls”.
“We asked if the festival is an issue, how by-polls were conducted”?
However, the Court has asked the Election Dept to conduct the village committee election by November this year, said Antony Debbarma.
Debbarma further added though it is too late as the assembly election is also near, still the ADC and Tipra Motha welcomes the verdict.
Notably, it has been more than a year since the Village Committees have expired in Tripura ADC but the ruling govt has not conducted a poll. This has led the Tipra Motha to knock the door of the High Court as all funding is paused which is preventing the developmental works in the ADC areas.
