Agartala, Nov 15: Along with other parts of the country, Tripura also observed Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas to commemorate the birth anniversary of great tribal freedom fighter- Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways- Sarbananda Sonowal joined the state-level programme at Dashamighat ground in Ambassa of Dhalai district on Tuesday.
Addressing the programme, the Union Minister said, Narendra Modi is the only Prime Minister in the country who gave due respect to the Janajati people.
“Modi ji is working to ensure development in every corner of the country with the mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Viswas, Sabka Prayas’,” Sonowal said.
Be it Education, Innovation, Agriculture, Tourism, Entrepreneurship, Healthcare or any other sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working to build ‘Ek Bharat, Shresta Bharat’ by uniting 130 crore countrymen right from Jammu and Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat, he said.
The Union Minister said, Manik Saha-led government in Tripura is also working in the same direction. He made an appeal to all to stay united for strengthening Tripura’s growth.
Addressing the programme, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Said, the present state government took several initiatives for the socio-economic development of the Janajati people.
He said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Janajati communities are now connected with the mainstream development.
Dr. Saha said, with the elections round the corner, the opposition party leaders are indulging in provocative speech and trying to defame the government in various ways. He warned that the state government would not tolerate such attempts from anybody.
A new scheme for Janajati development was announced in the programme. The scheme included Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP), to be funded by World Bank, Pun Baniya- credit linked based income generating goatery scheme, Wak Baniya- credit linked based income generating piggery scheme and supplementary Education for Elementary Classes (SEEC) to support the basic education.
Janajati Welfare minister Rampada Jamatia, Urban Development minister Manoj Kanti Deb, MP Rebati Tripura, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, chairman of Indian Tourism Development Corporation and BJP’s NE coordinator- Dr. Sambit Patra, MLA Sabmhulal Chakma, Secretary of Tribal Welfare department- L.T. Darlong, District Magistrate, Dhalai- Siddhartha Shiv Jaiswal and Superintendent of Police, Dhalai- Ramesh Yadav were present.
Meanwhile, the Union Minister along with the Chief Minister unveiled a statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda at Banabithi Park in Khowai in presence of Union Minister of State Pratima Bhowmik, Minister for ICA Sushanta Chowdhury and others.
Krishna Debnath, who made the statue, was felicitated in the programme. Besides, some veteran citizens were also honoured in the programme.
