Tripura Police rescues ‘abducted’ minor girl, massive protests followed

Tripura Police succeeded to rescue a minor girl, who had allegedly been abducted from Sonamura in Sepahijala district on Sunday last, followed by massive protests staged by the students on Wednesday.
Hundreds of school and college students along with other youths had hit the streets and staged protest by burning tyres at Sonamura tri-junction at about 11 am questioning the police’s role as the ‘abducted’ girl couldn’t be traced till then.
Besides, the students of Sonamura Girls’ School had also gheraoed the police station demanding recovery of the minor girl and stern action against the kidnapper(s).
The minor girl, a Class-X student of Balerdhepa area of Kalapania village, had reportedly been abducted by two youths when she was going to tuition about 6 am in the morning on Sunday last. Soon after the incident came to light, the victim’s family had lodged an FIR at the local police station.
According to sources, a marriage proposal was sent to the minor girl’s family but it was rejected following which the minor girl was kidnapped. Police already initiated a probe into the incident.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Sonamura- Banoj Biplab Das informed the media that the minor girl was rescued from Garji in Udaipur sub-division. He said, there were obstructions from the local but police rescued and took the minor girl to Sonamura police station at about 8 pm.
