Agartala, Jan 18: Ending all speculations the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the elections to Tripura Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.
As per the announcement, the voting will take place on February 16 while the counting of votes will be held on March 02.
With the announcement of the election, the Model Code of Conduct has already come into effect.
While announcing the election in a press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said the notification would be issued on January 21. The last date of filing nomination is January 30.
The scrutiny of nominations will take place on January 31 while the last date for withdrawal of nomination is February 2.
The Chief Election Commissioner said the election process would be completed by March 04. There are sixty Assembly Constituencies in Tripura.
The ECI is committed to ensure free, fair and peaceful election, he said, adding that the full-bench of the commission already visited the three poll-bound states in the North East.
According to the ECI, the schedule has been prepared for holding General Election to the Legislative Assemblies of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland after taking into consideration all relevant aspects like climatic conditions, academic calendar, board examination, major festivals, prevailing law and order situation in these States, availability of Central Armed Police Forces, time needed for movement, transportation and timely deployment of forces and in-depth assessment of other relevant ground realities.
