Tripura Rape Row: Protest continues

Agartala Oct 28: The situation in Tripura is gradually turning volatile as protests continues unabated over rising incidents of crime against women in Tripura and collapsed law and order situation.
Two more incidents of rape in different locations have been reported in last 48 hours that raised the tally to 4 rape cases in just one week.
Raising voice against such atrocities on women across the state, AIDSO, AIMMS, Tripura state Unit’s jointly organized a protest in Battala area of the capital city on Friday.
The leaders alleged, “The state administration and police are silent and inactive as everyday such incidents are increasing”.
According to official statistics over the period of a more than two and half years between January 1 2020 and August 31 2022 altogether 2164 incidents of crimes against women have been committed in different parts of the state and only 1174 people have been arrested in connection with the crimes. How many of the perpetrators will actually get convicted of the crimes committed is still not clear, added the agitators.
The protesters further alleged, “Police action and indulgence of crimes continue mostly under the pressure from leaders of the ruling party”.
The organizations demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of all the culprits.
