Amarpur, Jan 08: The traditional Pous Sankranti Mela, one of the most significant events in Tripura, is set to commence at Tirthamukh on January 13.
The Information and Cultural Affairs department in collaboration with the Karbook sub-divisional administration is gearing up to organize the mela.
To ensure smooth execution, a meeting was held last Saturday at the Tirthamukh fair ground.
Several officials and elected representatives attended the meeting, including Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council's Executive Member Dolly Reang, MLAs Sanjay Manik Tripura, Rampada Jamatia, Pathan Lal Jamatia, and Nandita Debbarma.
A main committee and 12 sub-committees have been formed to manage the fair.
As per tradition, Chief Minister of Tripura Dr. Manik Saha is expected to inaugurate the three-day mela. Following the inauguration, cultural performances by artists from Karbook subdivision and other parts of the state will be held
SDM Karbook Shyamjoy Jamatia assured that all necessary preparations have been made to host the vibrant fair. A total of 429 traders have been allotted stalls. Last year’s devastating floods had left the fair ground covered with sand, but extensive efforts have restored the area to its former condition.
Adequate police and TSR personnel will be deployed. Additionally, the administration has coordinated with BSF officials to prevent any illegal border crossings during or after the fair, as Karbook shares an international border with Bangladesh.
The Tirthamukh Pous Sankranti Fair attracts thousands of devotees from across Tripura and neighboring northeastern states every year. Pilgrims visit the fair for rituals such as immersing ashes, offering tarpan, and taking holy baths at Tirthamukh. Authorities expect a significant turnout this year as well.
With the final stages of preparation complete, all eyes are on the vibrant and culturally rich Tirthamukh Pous Sankranti Fair, a hallmark of Tripura’s rich heritage.
