Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma on Wednesday said that the present government brought transparency in the financial system of the state and now people are well aware of what is going on in the finance department. “Earlier finance was considered to be a confidential topic and people used to be tight-lipped regarding financial status and parameters of the state. I was shocked to see that. After all the money belongs to the public and they must know how their money is being spent”, said Dev Varma at a seminar organized to generate awareness on Government e-Marketplace (GeM). Speaking about the importance of GeM, he said, “GeM is a brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who believes in the policy of transparency. Today, what the state government is purchasing is open for all. The governments have been advised to purchase things through GeM and we are doing it. So, how the funds are coming and how it is being spent are in the public domain. This shows how responsive this responsible government is”. The Deputy Chief Minister who also happens to be the Finance Minister of the state also urged the small scale industries of the state to come forward and register themselves in GeM. “With registration in GeM, our artisans, handicraft workers, traders, service providers will get an opportunity to access the national markets. I have been told that only five organizations are registered with GeM from Tripura which should be improved. The Finance department is there to extend all possible help, the GeM should also be popularized among the people of our states”, he added. Finance Secretary Brijesh Pandey also spoke on the occasion.
