Sonamura, Dec 23: As winter's cool embrace settles over the region, Rudrasagar Lake and the majestic Neermahal have come alive, hosting a jubilant crowd eager to celebrate the season with picnics, sightseeing, and festivity. This timeless tradition is reaching new heights this year, with thousands flocking to these iconic landmarks, creating a vibrant tapestry of joy and togetherness.
On Sunday, Rudrasagar's picturesque Rajghat witnessed a sea of smiling faces as families, friends, and tourists gathered for a day of celebration. Over 1,500 visitors crossed the serene waters to Neermahal, while countless others enjoyed lively picnics and strolls along the eastern banks. The Melaghar market and surrounding areas bustled with activity, transforming into a hub of excitement from dawn to dusk.
But the allure of Rudrasagar goes beyond picnics. The 72nd North Eastern Council (NEC) meeting in Agartala has brought high-ranking officials from all eight north-eastern states to the region. Dignitaries, including the spouse of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Meghalaya Governor, C. H. Vijayashankar, Mizoram Governor, Dr. Hari Babu and Assam Chief Secretary, Dr. Ravi Kota joined the festivities at Rudrasagar over the weekend.
Adding an extra layer of excitement, the Border Security Force (BSF) marked its 60th Raising Day with a grand food festival at Rajghat. The event, which began last Friday, features stalls offering delicacies from across India at pocket-friendly prices. The overwhelming response from visitors led the BSF to extend the festival until Monday evening, much to the delight of food lovers. Commanding Officer Rajesh Kumar Sinha emphasized the BSF's mission of strengthening bonds with local communities through such initiatives.
Among the cheerful crowd were members of the Rudrasagar Displaced Fishermen Cooperative Society, working tirelessly to welcome guests and ensure smooth proceedings. “It’s heartwarming to see Rudrasagar buzzing with life,” shared Pabitra Kumar Das, the society's president. Alongside Secretary Parmeshwar Das and fellow members, he ensured visitors, including dignitaries and tourists, experienced the best of the region’s hospitality.
Rudrasagar along with several other captivating tourist destinations across the state, have become magnets for seasonal joy and exploration. From the lush greenery of Sipahijala Wildlife Sanctuary to the historical charm of Ujjayanta Palace, Tripura’s rich tapestry of attractions continues to enchant visitors. With the festivities gaining momentum, Neermahal stands tall as a symbol of the state’s allure, drawing tourists eager to experience its unique blend of history and natural beauty.
