Agartala, Sep 22: The Congress Working Committee Member Sudip Roy Barman criticized the BJP government at the Centre over the Women’s Reservation Bill, recently passed in the Lok Sabha and said, “This bill ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election is simply for political gain of the BJP government at the Centre.”
Addressing a press conference here at Congress Bhavan on Friday, Barman demanded that the women's reservation bill be implemented immediately from the year 2024 and alleged that the government does not want to do this while distracting from the demand for caste census.
“According to the Modi-government at the Centre which introduced the bill, it will be implemented only after census and delimitation process, which perhaps is a long process and in that case implementation of the bill will take a decade, which cannot be entertained,” he told reporters.
He alleged, “The government at the Centre is suppressing the Census data and because of the fact that can we not call this government as anti-dalit, anti-tribe and anti-OBC? In the case of our state of Tripura, almost 27% of the total population are OBCs, although according to the government the figure rested at 24%. We are still not aware of the exact figure as this has not been revealed by the government yet and this is how the OBCs in Tripura and across the country are being deprived from all government schemes.”
He alleged that the government does not want to do this while distracting from the demand for caste census.
