Workshop highlights bamboo’s role in climate change mitigation

Agartala, Feb 11: The Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma on Tuesday emphasized the importance of bamboo cultivation in combating climate change at a one-day workshop titled "The Role of Bamboo in Climate Change Mitigation" at the Bamboo and Cane Development Institute in Lichubagan. The event was attended by officials from the Science and Technology Department, including the secretary, along with students from various colleges.
Addressing the gathering, Debbarma stressed the need to raise awareness about climate change and promote carbon-neutral practices to restore environmental balance. "We are making efforts to help people understand the mitigation process, and bamboo cultivation plays a crucial role in this," he said.
The workshop explored various strategies to enhance bamboo cultivation and its potential to absorb carbon dioxide efficiently. Experts discussed how large-scale bamboo plantations could serve as a sustainable solution for reducing carbon footprints.
With Tripura’s favorable climate for bamboo growth, officials highlighted the need for policy support and community participation to maximize its benefits. The event also included discussions on innovative cultivation techniques to expand bamboo production in the state.
