Yaba tablets worth Rs 5 crore seized, 21 arrested in anti-drug drive

Agartala, Mar 06: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, a team from Tripura Police, led by SDPO Sadar DP Roy, raided a suspected drug dealer's residence and seized Yaba tablets worth Rs 5 crore on Thursday. Three individuals were arrested in connection with the case, a senior police official said. Speaking to the media at West Agartala Police Station,West Tripura Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar K said, "West Agartala Police Station received confidential information that Md Babul Miah (45), residing in the Mahesh Khala area of Chandinamura, had stocked a significant quantity of illegal drugs at his home. Acting on this tip-off, a special team, under the leadership of SDPO Sadar, conducted a raid. During the search, police seized 1.6 lakh Yaba tablets. The estimated market value of the recovered narcotics stands at around Rs 5 crore." The primary suspect, Md Babul Miah, was arrested along with two of his accomplices, identified as Shipon Hossian (26) from Bishalgarh and Sanjay Miah (42) of Chandinamura. "They will be produced before the court with a request for police remand. Further interrogation will help us track the network operating behind the curtains," Kumar added. The Police Superintendent further disclosed that the department had been conducting a targeted anti-drug operation over the past week. "For the last eight days, we have executed multiple raids as part of this special anti-narcotics drive. So far, our team has seized 1.6 lakh Yaba tablets, 1,078 bottles of banned cough syrup, and 66 grams of heroin. A total of 21 suspects have been arrested during these operations." Additionally, police sources confirmed the seizure of several mobile phones, motorcycles, and cash during the raids.
