Youth accused of brutally killing puppy arrested

Agartala, Mar 15. Followed by a massive outrage on social media platforms, police early in Saturday morning arrested one Biswa Katha Jamatia alias Badar Jamatia who was accused in the killing of a puppy. His cruel act of killing was captured in a video which was later posted on the social media platforms.
The video showcased the accused lifting the animal on rear legs and slamming it repeatedly on the earthen surface leading to severe injuries. He also used a blunt object to beat the innocent animal to death.
As soon as the video was uploaded online, it took the social media platform by storm inviting wide criticism and outrage from the netizens. Several people on individual level and animal rights NGOs stepped in and filed complaints with the police stations across the state.
Tripura Animal Resource Development Department Minister Sudhangshu Das taking swift cognizance to the matter instructed the authorities to find out the details of the accused person.
After an initial investigation by the police it was found that the accused Badar Jamatia hails from the Hadrai area of Teliamura under Khowai district.
Animal Rights NGOs Pawsome and K-NINE also lodged separate FIRs in Teliamura Police station and West Agartala Police station. Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman also filed a separate complaint.
Speaking on the issue, OC Teliamura police station Rajib Debnath said, “We have registered a specific FIR on Thursday night. After all the formalities, a team of police officials were sent to the house of the accused person identified as Biswa Kanta Jamatia alias Badar Jamatia from where he was arrested in the early hours of Saturday.”
Debnath also said that he would soon be produced before the Court. Charges were invoked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
