Kalyanpur Feb 15: In an inspiring initiative, relief materials were distributed to approximately 600 families in Kalyanpur, affected by recent floods. This significant effort was a joint initiative by Agartala's Abhay Mission and Mumbai-based America Care, with each family receiving relief materials worth around Rs 10,000.
Nirmal Deb, president of Abhay Mission, addressed reporters and shared that the distribution was originally planned after the last catastrophic flood but had to be postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.
Despite the initial plan to inaugurate the program in front of Kalyanpur Lotus Community Hall on Friday, the main event saw a shift in plans due to the unfortunate passing of party worker Balai Goswami.
Kalyanpur MLA, although unable to attend the main program, visited once during the event along with Mandal president Nitai Bal.
The primary program was inaugurated by Kalyanpur Panchayat Samiti Chairman Soumen Gope, who commenced the distribution process. Key figures from Abhay Mission, including president Nirmal Deb, secretary Sushmita Dey, and administrative head Ratan Acharjee, were present at the event. Representatives from America Care, Abhinav and Prafulla Patel, also played an active role in the proceedings.
A total of 21 different items were distributed as relief materials, which included mosquito nets, tarpaulins, two drinking water containers, towels, combs, mosquito repellent, soaps, umbrellas, among other essentials. This comprehensive aid package was designed to help families better cope with future flood situations.
MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury praised the efforts of the social organizations, acknowledging that during the previous flood, all government departments worked together to provide timely assistance to the flood victims.
He further emphasized the commendable nature of private organizations like Abhay Mission and America Care stepping up to support affected communities.
Chowdhury remarked that it is natural for people to help each other in times of disaster, underscoring the importance of solidarity and community support.
