Alleged imposter arrested in Dharmanagar

Dharmanagar Oct 02: Uttam Chakma, a resident of Machmara, accused of deceiving people by impersonating Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel, was apprehended by local residents from Office Tilla area on Tuesday night and later handed over to the Dharmanagar Police.
According to Dharmanagar police official, Chakma has been the subject of multiple complaints at the police station.
On September 27, a woman reported that Chakma took her mobile phone under the pretence of making a call and then fled. Additionally, five months ago, he allegedly absconded with money from two local restaurants owned by Mithun Bhattacharjee and Bimal Nath.
Chakma’s modus operandi involved dressing as a BSF or TSR personnel to gain the trust of his victims.
The police investigation has confirmed that Chakma is not affiliated with any paramilitary organization and is, in fact, an impostor.
“We are investigating the case. The detained was produced before the Court seeking police remand for further interrogation”, said Police.
