Kailashahar, Jan 22: Kailashahar MLA Birajit Sinha and Unakoti District Congress president Md. Badruzzaman have raised concerns over the construction and repair of embankments near the India-Bangladesh international border and along the banks of the Manu River.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Sinha announced plans for protests, including a road blockade near Kailashahar airport on January 25 and a long march to Debipur border area the same day.
Sinha alleged illegal embankment construction by Bangladesh in Debipur and criticized conflicting reports from BSF and state officials.
He urged the central government to investigate. While praising Chief Minister Manik Saha for addressing the issue with the Union Home Minister, Sinha demanded immediate action for embankment repairs.
The Congress warned of intensified agitation, including a 48-hour bandh in Kailashahar, if their demands are not met within 15 days.
