The ‘rowdy youths’ threatened the on-duty traffic personnel with severe harm, including death.
Raising similar allegations, the Sadar District Congress Committee staged a protest demonstration in front of the West Agartala Police Station on Saturday.
The Congress leadership called for immediate arrest of the culprits.
Sadar District Congress Committee president, Tanmoy Roy, Pradesh Congress secretary Shantipriya Bhattacharjee, Sanjib Sutradhar, OBC Chairman Manoranjan Debnath, Youth Leader Shahjahan Islam, Sadar District Women Congress president Rupa Roy Das, Pradesh Women Congress general secretary Shreyashi Laskar, Student Leader Amir Hossain among others led the protest, voicing their demands for justice.
Addressing the reporters, Congress leader Shahjahan Islam said, “Those youths who abused on-duty traffic police belongs to BJPs infamous bike gang, chappa-vote casting gang. This scenario where on-duty traffic police faces such harassment and that too in broad daylight shows the real picture of law and order under chief minister Dr Manik Saha led BJP government”.
The Congress further alleged that the ‘chief minister has miserably failed to control his party workers’, as the incident took place in his own constituency.
