Agartala, Feb 02: The house of Narayan Debnath, a resident of Gurkhabasti in Barjala Assembly constituency, was allegedly set on fire by BJP-backed miscreants on Saturday night. Debnath, a CPIM supporter and former army personnel, has reportedly been facing repeated attacks since the last assembly elections.
According to CPIM leaders, Debnath's only "fault" is his political affiliation. Opposition leader and CPIM state secretary Jitendra Choudhury, along with MLA Sudip Sarkar, visited the site and condemned the incident. Choudhury alleged that an influential BJP leader was behind the repeated attacks and that the state government had failed to provide security.
Choudhury stated that Debnath had previously reported an arson attack on his house to the Prime Minister’s Office and Army chief of the country, following which a directive was sent to the then Director General of Police for a proper investigation. However, no action was taken, and he was forced to leave his home.
CPIM leaders have demanded immediate and strict action against the perpetrators, accusing the government of failing to protect citizens from political violence.
