Dharmanagar Jul 3: Stairs of the newly constructed Dasami Ghat in Panisagar area collapsed even before it was formally inaugurated. A project to construct a Dasami Ghat was taken under a hillock on which the Panisagar SDM and Nagar Panchayat offices are located. Total Rs 20 lakh (Appr) was estimated to be the cost and the work was given to a contractor of Kanchanpur, Hirendra Chandra Debnath.

The construction works were implemented by one Jhutan Das who is the brother of Engineer of the RD Department Litan Das – several allegations of fund embezzlement were published in newspapers against him. Moreover, he is also accused of having assets disproportionate to his income, local sources alleged.

Local people also alleged that Jhutan Das worked on the construction of the Dasami Ghat at night.

“We have made allegations mentioning the poor quality of works, but the concerned authority did not pay any heed to our complaints”, alleged one person on condition of anonymity.
