Agartala, Sept 28: While the state government’s announcement on free distribution of Maida, Sugar and Sooji in PDS for Durga Puja, Tripura Pradesh Congress chief Ashish Kumar Saha called it a calculated move of the cabinet to hide the recent hike in Sugar price.
A day after the government's announcement, he mentioned that the Sugar price was recently hiked by Rs. 7 per kilogram.
Saha in a press release noted that while the cabinet’s decision would cost Rs. 6.84 crore to the government, the hike in the price of sugar for 1 kg for 9.83 lakh ration card holders would earn Rs. 68.81 lakh per month and Rs. 8,25,72,000 per year to government—it would be huge burden on the people.
In the name of free distribution of Sooji, Maida and Sugar, the government’s calculated move to fool the people is against public interest, Saha pointed out. While criticizing the state government, he also demanded immediate withdrawal of the rise in price of sugar, considering the impact of the recent floods.
