Agartala, Oct 05: Tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Saturday said, the Tourism department has undertaken several initiatives to transform Tripura into a preferred tourist destination in the country.
He said, as part of such efforts, Neermahal, the historic and architectural tourist destination, has been revitalized with new tourism infrastructure to enhance the visitors’ experience.
The Tourism minister was addressing a gathering to mark inauguration newly developed facilities at Rajghat of Melaghar.
According to Chowdhury, Tripura's tourism sector is set to play a pivotal role in boosting the state's economy.
While emphasizing the commitment to making Tripura a premier tourist destination, Chowdhury highlighted the ongoing efforts by the state government and tourism department to enhance Neermahal's attraction, announcing that the centre has already approved Rs. 75-crore project to modernize the site.
He detailed a series of recent upgrades aimed at improving the visitor experience, including a Tourist Facilitation Center, souvenir shops, a watchtower, and expanded parking facilities. These improvements, costing over Rs. 4.2 crore, were implemented under the ‘Swadesh Darshan’ initiative at Rajghat.
Additionally, Chowdhury noted progress in plans to establish direct access to the royal palace and thanked the Prime Minister for his support in advancing these development projects. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including MLA Kishore Barman and Tourism Secretary U.K. Chakma.
