Agartala Oct 05: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Agartala has predicted medium to heavy rainfall with lightning and thunderstorm in few districts of the state, starting from Saturday, October 05, 2024.
In a press briefing, the IMD Agartala Head said that a cyclonic circulation lies over Gangetic West Bengal on one side and North East, Assam on the other side resulting in rainfall in Tripura.
“In past 24 hours, low to medium rainfall has been recorded in Tripura, while highest rainfall measuring 42 mm was recorded in West Tripura District’s AD Nagar”, he said.
The Agartala IMD Head further informed that on October 5, 2024 five districts in Tripura including West Tripura, Gomati, Sepahijala, Khowai and South Tripura saw heavy rainfall.
He however mentioned that according to predictions, there will be no such heavy rainfall but scattered rainfall on October 6 while October 7 will likely see rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning in all the districts of the state.
Meanwhile, the Saturday rains took a toll on the citizens as they struggled to visit the local markets to do last- minute shopping for the most awaited Durga Puja season.
Also, the businessmen who wait throughout the year for this festive season, experienced low sales on this day.
As the IMD predicts rainfall for three consecutive days in state, the festival-loving people of Tripura continue praying Goddess Durga for Rain-Free Puja days.
