Gandacherra Feb 25: On Monday, the Gandacherra CDPO office witnessed a major protest led by IPFT party workers, ignited by the appointment of 9 Anganwadi workers and 16 helpers under the Dumboor Nagar ICDS project.
The unrest began when over a hundred IPFT party workers, brandishing party flags, stormed the CDPO office early in the morning. They forcibly removed the office staff and locked the office doors, preventing any further entry.
Following the incident, a substantial police force from the Gandacherra police station arrived at the scene.
The office authorities quickly responded by filing a case at the police station against the disruption caused by the IPFT workers.
According to local IPFT leaders, the protest was rooted in their belief that there had been rampant corruption in the appointment process. They claimed that the appointments of the Anganwadi workers and helpers were completely illegal and demanded a thorough re-investigation and re-appointment through a fair process.
On the other hand, the office authorities defended their recruitment process. They stated that interviews for the 9 Anganwadi workers and 16 helpers under the Dumboor Nagar ICDS were conducted last November. The interview committee was chaired by the BDO of Dumboor Nagar block, with the CDPO as the member secretary, and included the Dumboor Nagar school inspector and the sub-division health officer as members. Following the interviews, the selected candidates were issued offer letters on February 19.
The IPFT party, however, alleged that their workers were deliberately excluded from receiving offer letters, prompting them to take drastic measures by locking the CDPO office.
They also demanded to see the interview result sheet, which the office authorities refused to show without authorization from higher authorities.
Amid these tensions, the office workers insisted that the recruitment process was conducted legally and in accordance with the established system.
The protests have created a palpable sense of panic among the office staff, who are now calling for increased police patrols during office hours to ensure their safety and prevent further disruptions.
