Agartala Nov 17: Led by CPIM MLA and State Secretary of the Prime Opposition Party in Tripura, a team of Left leaders visited the South Ramnagar, Border Golchakkar area in the state capital to interact with the families, most of whom are residing under the open sky after their residences were bulldozed by the AMC, in previous days.
During the visit, Chowdhury highlighted the long-standing presence of the residents, stating, "Shops, houses of people, who have been living here for at least 40 years were all of a sudden bulldozed by AMC in mere 15-20 days notice without making any sort of alternative arrangements”.
“Previous governments in the state provided them with all necessary assistance as citizens of Tripura, including water connections, LPG gas connections, and electricity. The residents also actively participated in electing public representatives, including Corporators for AMC. They are legal citizens and regular taxpayers, hence for road broadening and beautification work of the city, the people residing here cannot be left homeless”, he said.
Chowdhury condemned the recent bulldozing incident under BJP-led Agartala Municipal Corporation, calling it ‘inhuman’ and a challenge to the Supreme Court Order.
He demanded strict action against the AMC officials responsible for the incident.
The CPI(M) leader also noted the two primary demands of the homeless people in Border Golchakkar: rehabilitation by the government and employment opportunities.
“They are ready to comply with the government’s or AMC’s decision. In return, they just want shelter and work to feed their families. No government should be that inhuman”, said the Leader of Opposition.
The day’s visit underscored the party’s commitment to addressing the grievances of the affected families and advocating for their rights.
Jiten Choudhury emphasized the need for immediate action to ensure justice and support for the displaced residents.
