Lalit Kala sculpture exhibition: Justice Lodh bats for selling displays

Agartala, Mar 22: Judge of the High Court of Tripura, Justice Arindam Lodh urged the Lalit Kala Akademy to introduce the facility for selling sculptures and other displays during an exhibition. Justice Lodh was speaking at the inaugural session of a sculpture exhibition of 51 artists started at Nazrul Kalakhestra in Agartala on Wednesday. The exhibition will continue till March 28 and was organized with the initiative of Lalit Kala Akademi.
Judge of High Court of Tripura Justice Arindam Lodh along with Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Viveknagar, Agartala, Swami Shubhakarananda, Lalit Kala Akademy member Suman Majumder and dignitaries inaugurated the exhibition in which wood sculptures of 51 artists including eight from the Northeast Region were displayed.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Lodh hailed the initiative of the Akademy and said, “I will like to draw the attention of Lalit Kala Akademy authority to make arrangements for selling the sculptures created by the artists”.
The exhibition was preceded by a National Wood carving camp in the same venue. The camp was inaugurated by Youth Affairs Minister of State Tinku Roy in presence of Chairman of Lalit Kala Akademy V Nagdesh on March 15 last. All the exhibits were crafted by the artists in the weeklong camp.
In his speech, Swami Shubhakarananda encouraged the artists and hailed their crafting skills.
Suman Majumder, in his welcome speech, informed the gathering that the Lalit Akademy authority has sanctioned Rs 20 lakh for purchasing equipment for ‘graphics designers’. Earlier, such equipment was not available in the State and graphics designers in the State were facing troubles.
“With the fund available for purchasing the required equipment, it will be a boon for the artists”, Majumder said.
