Boxanagar, Feb 9: Despite not owning any land, a farmer from Boxanagar, Sushil Sarkar, has proven that dedication and hard work can lead to agricultural success. By cultivating others’ land, he has become self-reliant, sustaining his family while inspiring many with his perseverance.
For years, Sushil worked as a laborer on different farms, unable to practice independent farming due to a lack of land. However, his fortunes changed two years ago when Boxanagar Mandal president Anil Chandra Das provided him with five kani of land for mustard cultivation.
Encouraged by the opportunity, Sushil took up farming with renewed determination. Last year, he expanded his cultivation to nearly 12 kani, but due to personal challenges, he had to scale down this year.
According to Sushil, government assistance has also played a key role in his success. Through various agricultural schemes, including the BLW project, he received fertilizers, seeds and farming equipment. Support from the local panchayat further helped him sustain his agricultural activities. As a result, his mustard yield has significantly improved, increasing his earnings and securing his family’s livelihood.
During a recent visit to Sushil’s mustard fields, Anil Chandra Das praised his determination, stating, “Success in farming requires willpower and effort, not just land. Sushil’s dedication is truly commendable.”
Sushil’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance. His story proves that with hard work, community support and access to resources, even landless farmers can achieve self-sufficiency and success.
