Tinku Roy clarifies reservation policy stance in Jr PI recruitment

Agartala, Feb 10: The state's Youth Affairs and Sports Minister, Tinku Roy, has clarified the state's stance on reservation in the recruitment of Junior Physical Instructors (Group-C). Addressing a press conference on Monday, Roy dismissed recent media reports alleging violations of reservation policies in the hiring process. The conference was also attended by Secretary Dr. P.K. Chakraborty and Director S.B. Nath.
Minister Roy explained that on February 7, last a recruitment notification was issued for 301 Junior PI posts. Tipra Motha Supremo Pradyot Manikya Deb Barma and MLA Ranjit Debbarma had sought clarification on the implementation of reservation policies in the recruitment process.
The minister affirmed that the hiring process strictly adheres to the state’s reservation policy. Of the 770 sanctioned Junior PI posts, 131 are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC), 239 for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and 400 for the general category. Currently, 82 SC, 195 ST, and 110 general-category candidates are employed.
Roy further detailed that in 2009, out of 226 vacancies, 199 candidates were appointed, filling most ST-category positions. Recently, the Finance Department approved recruitment for 301 posts from 383 vacancies, with 35 reserved for SC, 18 for ST, and 248 for the general category.
Roy assured that the recruitment follows the 100% roster system and the Tripura SC-ST Reservation Rules, 1992.
