MGNREGA: 2.56 crore mandays generated in Tripura in current FY

Agartala, Nov 02: As many as 2.56 persondays have been generated under MGNREGA in Tripura so far in the current financial year, an official said on Wednesday.
“The approved labour budget for the current financial year is 3.25 crore mandays. As of now, 2.56 crore (61.71 percent) mandays have been generated; 40.16 mandays on an average,” Special Secretary of Rural Development department Sandeep R. Rathod said in a press conference.
He said, the target is to generate 60 persondays on an average till March next. The expenditure for implementing the scheme stood 585.95 crore. The overall amount of fund received from the central and state shares is Rs. 903.87 crore.
Rathod also said that there is no proposal to increase the REGA wages (now Rs. 212) for the time being. However, a proposal would be sent to the Centre for revising the labour budget.
Speaking to the media regarding achievements of the Rural Development department, the special secretary claimed that Tripura’s achievement in timely payment of REGA wages is 99.26 percent, which is higher than the national average.
