Kalyanpur, Feb 13: The age-old tradition of Bagher Sinni continues to thrive in rural areas, especially in Dashtila village under West Ghilatali Panchayat under Kalyanpur block.
Throughout the Magh (Bengali month), villagers, both young and old, dress as tigers and perform ritualistic dances from house to house, singing folk songs.
The celebrations peak on the last day of Magh, when the entire village gathers for a forest ritual and offered prayers and distributed khichuri as prasad.
While no spiritual or mythological explanation is found for Bagher Sinni, elders believe it originated from ancient times when villagers stayed awake at night, singing songs to keep away tigers attacking from nearby forests.
Over time, this practice became a significant part of local folklore. Even today, villages in Kalyanpur enthusiastically uphold this tradition, reviving an old cultural heritage.
