Agartala, Jun 18: In preparation for the upcoming Panchayat elections, Tripura Pradesh Congress held an organizational meeting at the Congress Bhavan in Agartala on Monday.
The party state president Ashish Kumar Saha, MLA Sudip Roy Barman, various district unit in-charges, district presidents and other party members and activists attended the meeting.
The meeting aimed to prepare strategies for the Panchayat polls and discuss strengthening the party base ahead of the elections, Saha said.
While interacting with the media, Saha stated that a delegation from Tripura recently met with officials of the National Election Commission to highlight the lack of a conducive environment for fair elections in the state.
The delegation pointed out that in the previous Panchayat polls, opposition parties were not allowed to file nominations, resulting in the ruling party winning almost 90 percent of the seats, he added.
The delegation demanded arrangements for the online submission of nomination papers for party candidates and the deployment of paramilitary forces at all polling booths to ensure a fair election. The election commission assured the delegation of this connection, Saha said.
Saha added that the meeting would also discuss seat-sharing with their alliance party, the Left Front, for the upcoming Panchayat polls.
