Agartala March 21: Extending his support to the Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF) led indefinite strike across Tripura, pressing for ‘Roman Script for Kokborok language’, TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma said that students must be allowed to read and write in the script they are comfortable with.
Deb Barma visited the spot of protest at capital city’s Circuit House area on Friday and sat with the blockaders on road, backing their demand.
Talking to the reporters, he said, “No language should be imposed on another. Kokborok is the language of the indigenous people and therefore it is their right to decide in what script they want to read and write the same”.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman when asked about the protests led by TSF also extended his support adding that the Congress too has been demanding the same for the indigenous population for a long time.
“The demand is legitimate and is a matter of indigenous sentiments. I cannot understand why the government is delaying in accepting their demand”, he said.
