Dharmanagar, Dec 11: Railway Division Demand and Development Committee in Dharmanagar has resumed its agitation to demand the establishment of a railway division in the region.
Despite nearly three decades since the committee was formed in the 1990s, this long-standing demand remained unfulfilled.
Dharmanagar, home to Tripura’s first railway station established in 1964, reportedly seen little progress over the years.
The locals also expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of development, even as political leaders have often used the region’s demands as campaign promises.
Besides, before the 2018 elections, BJP leaders, including former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, assured the establishment of a railway division.
Even the present government has taken no significant action for the development of the railway station, the committee members claimed.
The committee, comprising members from various political and social backgrounds, has recently submitted a deputation to the District Magistrate and called a crucial meeting on December 15 to decide on the next steps. Committee officials have hinted at intensifying the movement if their demands continue to be ignored.
