Dharmanagar, Feb 13: Students of Chandpur Secondary School staged a protest by blocking Assam-Agartala National Highway, demanding justice for their acting headmaster, Bikas Das, who was allegedly assaulted by a student's mother. The blockade was lifted after police intervention and assurances from the local officer-in-charge.
The incident occurred on February 10, last when four students arrived late to school after the national anthem. Headmaster Das denied them entry, citing school rules. However, Sumati Bardhan, the mother of one student, allegedly stormed into the school and physically assaulted Das with her shoe. Police from Churaibari station intervened and detained Bardhan, but she was released after a community mediation effort.
Tensions escalated when Bardhan later filed a counter-complaint against the headmaster. In response, students blocked the highway on Thursday morning. Police assured them that legal action would be taken if Das filed a formal complaint, leading to the withdrawal of the protest.
