Agartala, May 20: The supply and stock of various essential commodities and fuel in the state is satisfactory, Food minister Sushanta Chowdhury said on Monday.
He said, the supply of fuel and other essentials to Tripura was affected for some days since April 26 due to disruption in rail services owing to a landslip at Jatinga area of Assam. In such a situation, the rationing system was temporarily introduced in the state with effect from May 1 last in case of fuel distribution. During that period, petrol-diesel and other items were transported to the state by road with the assistance from IOCL.
Chowdhury said, the supply of fuel and other essentials became normal now as the affected rail track has been restored. As a result, the rationing system for fuel distribution has been withdrawn. At present, the state has sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel, he said.
Meanwhile, the Minister said, 290 raids were conducted by the Special Task Forces at sub-divisional level and fine money of Rs. 4 lakh was collected in view of the artificial shortage of essentials in the market by a section of dishonest traders.
According to the Food minister, the average daily demand for petrol and diesel in the state is 275 kilolitres and 365 kilolitres respectively. A total of 1,700 kilolitres petrol and 2,726 kilolitres diesel are now in stock in the state’s petrol pumps and the IOCL’s depot at Dharmanagar.
Speaking to the reporters, Chowdhury also said that the FCI has been supplying the essential commodities to the state normally.
Secretary to Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Anindya Bhattacharjee, Director Nirmal Adhikary and Addl. Director Animesh Debbarma were also present in the press conference.
