Three arrested for rice theft in capital

Agartala, Nov 08: Three youths were arrested by the NCC PS officials on charges of stealing rice from various shops in the city, after posing as customers. The arrest on Friday follows an investigation into a complaint filed by a local grocery store owner. A total of nine bags of stolen rice were recovered by police.
According to NCC PS OC, Sushant Deb the incident first came to light on November 4, last when a man identified as Victor Deb reported that two individuals posing as a customer had entered his grocery shop, purchased some items, and then walked off with a sack of rice. Deb filed a formal complaint at the NCC police station, prompting an investigation.
During the investigation, police discovered multiple reports of rice thefts from grocery shops in areas such as Gorkha Basti and Aralia. Based on this information, the police launched a series of raids across the city and managed to arrest two suspects identified as Biplab Banik and Bijay Dhana. While questioning them at the police station, a third individual, Ashutosh Sharma was identified, and they too were taken into custody.
A total of nine sacks of stolen rice were recovered from the suspects. Sushant Deb confirmed that the police would be seeking police remand for the three arrested individuals in court.
