Agartala May 23: A deputation led by the TIPRA Motha 47 Ambasa Block Committee marched to the Ambasa Police Station on Thursday, demanding justice for a day laborer.
The committee expressed concern over the recent incident involving Dharmendra Tripura, a day laborer from the Kanthal Bari area who was allegedly assaulted by Justice Goutam Sarkar.
According to reports, on May 18, Dharmendra Tripura had returned home after a day’s work at the District Sessions Court Judge Gautam Sarkar’s quarter complex.
However, on the following day, he found himself back at the same location for fetching his uniform that he left the other day during work.
In an unfortunate turn of events, Justice Gautam Sarkar allegedly assaulted Dharmendra Tripura with a stick when the laborer went to retrieve his shirt.
Shockingly, the judge then handed Dharmendra over to the police, claiming that he was intoxicated.
Dharmendra, however, vehemently protested, questioning why he was released by the police if he had indeed been caught consuming alcohol.
The incident has sparked outrage among the local community, and the TIPRA Motha 47 Ambasa Block Committee is determined to seek justice for Dharmendra Tripura and all day labourers who face similar mistreatment.
The committee has called for a thorough investigation into the actions of Justice Gautam Sarkar and demands accountability for what they believe was a purposeful attack on an innocent worker.
Meanwhile, Police of Ambasa Police Station have assured the delegation that a fair inquiry will be conducted, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
