Traffic Inspector arrested for embezzling Fine money in Sepahijala Dist

Agartala March 05: In a significant financial scam, unearthed within the office of the Sepahijala District Traffic Unit, Traffic Inspector Amarjit Debbarma has been arrested on charges of embezzling Rs 74. 4 lakh collected as fines.
The scandal came to light when it was discovered that the fines collected by the traffic police, which were supposed to be deposited in the government treasury, were missing.
Inspector Amarjit Debbarma, who was responsible for depositing the fine money, initially claimed to have fulfilled his duties. However, an internal investigation revealed that a total of Rs 74. 4 lakh from 8 invoices had not been deposited.
Following the revelation, a case was filed at the Bishalgarh Police Station, with Additional Superintendent of Police Rajib Sutradhar leading the investigation.
Despite being given time to deposit the missing money, Inspector Debbarma failed to do so, resulting in his arrest on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, he was presented in court, with the police requesting a three-day remand to further probe the matter.
Adding another layer to the scandal, it has been reported that a female police officer is also implicated in the embezzlement scheme.
Allegations have surfaced that she has been in a romantic relationship with Inspector Debbarma for a long time. As the investigation unfolds, more information is expected to come to light, shedding further details on the extent of the corruption within the Sepahijala District Administration.
