Kalyanpur Feb 04: In a tragic accident, the joyous celebrations of Saraswati Puja in Kalyanpur turned into a scene of panic and fear when a tragic accident occurred, leaving a young student seriously injured.
Deepjoy Deb, a standard nine student residing in the Khas Kalyanpur area, suffered severe injuries after being electrocuted.
According to eyewitness accounts, on Monday night, while passing near a puja mandap on School Road in Kalyanpur, Deepjoy's hand accidentally came into contact with an exposed live wire.
In an instant, he received a severe electric shock and collapsed to the ground. The initial confusion among the onlookers quickly turned to alarm as they rushed to his aid upon hearing his screams.
Local residents promptly rescued Deepjoy and took him to Kalyanpur Hospital. However, due to the severity of the shock, his condition deteriorated rapidly. The doctors on duty at Kalyanpur Hospital immediately referred him to Khowai District Hospital for better treatment.
Local residents have alleged that the puja committee failed to implement proper safety measures for the electricity connection, which they believe led to this tragic accident.
Anger and frustration have erupted among the local populace, with many blaming the puja committee for its mismanagement and negligence.
Witnesses have remarked that more caution should have been exercised when setting up temporary electricity connections for the puja.
Following the incident, the local administration swiftly arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation.
Authorities have confirmed that the cause of the faulty electricity connection is being thoroughly investigated. If the negligence of the puja committee is established, strict action will be taken against those responsible.
Deepjoy is presently undergoing treatment at Khowai District Hospital, where he remains under close observation.
However, the tradition of using temporary electricity connections to illuminate puja mandaps during Saraswati Puja has come under scrutiny following this incident.
