Teliamura March 25: More than 15 people were seriously injured in a horrific accident on Tuesday morning, in the Kalai Basti area of Atharomura Hills under Mungiakami police station.

The accident has left the community shaken as emergency responders and local residents rushed to aid the victims.

The Bolero pickup truck involved in the accident was carrying over twenty passengers from Kalai Basti to Mungiakami Bazar on the day of the weekly haat in Mungiakami.

Tragically, the vehicle’s braking system failed while ascending a high road, causing it to lose control. The truck slid backwards uncontrollably before tumbling into a deep ditch.

Some passengers managed to save their lives by jumping from the vehicle in time, while others were dragged into the ditch along with the falling truck.

Eyewitnesses quickly alerted another vehicle to transport the injured to Teliamura Subdivisional Hospital.

Eight victims received primary treatment at the hospital, while four were referred to Agartala GB Hospital for advanced care due to their critical condition.

Among the injured were Rubashree Reang, a 20-year-old college student; Meenakshi Kalai, aged 50; Manoj Debbarma, the driver; and Dushasan Reang. Fortunately, two children involved in the accident escaped unscathed.
