Agartala, Jan 25: On the eve of Republic Day, Tripura’s visual arts community has achieved remarkable success, as four artists secured CCRT fellowships and eight others were selected for the prestigious 64th National Exhibition by Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi.
The CCRT fellowship recipients include Sankar Rudra Pal and Rupa Nadi Ghosh (senior category) and Sarmistha Singha and Dipika Das (junior category).
They will receive monthly stipends of Rs 20 thousand and Rs 10 thousand, respectively, for two years.
The Lalit Kala Akademi exhibition, organized under the Ministry of Culture, features 294 selected works out of over 7 thousands entries.
Tapati Bhowmik Majumdar, Nitai Das, Manish Bhattacharjee, Pramitparna Pal, Jayshree Roy, Jaydip Bhattacharjee, Pushpal Deb and Shanta Deb will represent the state in the event. Among them, Nitai Das and Shanta Deb are renowned sculptors, while the others are accomplished painters.
Tripura has the highest number of selected artists from the north-eastern states this year, a milestone attributed to the efforts of the state Lalit Kala Akademi, established in 2018.
With a history of four national award winners, including Soumen Debnath in 2023, Tripura’s artistic community is hopeful for another win.
