Tripura, Bangladesh traders’ body contemplating to expand handicraft market

Agartala, Feb 08: The traders’ body of both Tripura and neighbouring Bangladesh is contemplating to enhance and expand the handicraft market, said General Secretary of IBCCI Sujit Roy on Thursday.
A 5-member delegation of the Bangladesh Handicrafts Manufacturers and Exporters Association on Thursday arrived here at Agartala. The Tripura Merchants’ Association and India Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI) welcomed the delegates and held an interaction programme with them.
Briefing about the objective of the interaction programme, the general secretary of IBCCI Sujit Roy said that the meeting is focused mainly to strengthen the tie with Bangladesh counterpart through expansion of handicraft market.
He said, “The Bangladesh delegates have come mainly to seek larger participation from Tripura in their 4th Bangladesh International Jute and Handicrafts Trade Fair commencing from April 25 next till April 29 this year.”
On the other hand, the former vice president of Bangladesh Handicrafts Manufacturers and Exporters Association Kazi Shahab Uddin who led the Bangladesh delegation on Thursday said, “In view of the similarity of culture and tradition, we are eyeing forward to strengthen export and import business with Tripura.”
“We have been participating in the Tripura’s Industry fair, where we found that some of our products including sarees of different quality have huge demand in Tripura. In addition to this we want to access the Tripura raw materials like Bamboos and canes to expand its market here,” he told reporters.
