Agartala, Feb 4: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has strongly criticized the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on January 31, calling it “anti-people and anti-development.”
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhawan on Tuesday, Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty, stated that the budget offers no substantial benefits for Tripura or the Northeast and will hinder the state’s progress.
He argued that while the budget provides minor tax relief for the middle class, it neglects crucial sectors, including poverty alleviation programs like MGNREGA and funding for northeastern states.
“This budget serves corporate interests while ignored unemployment, poverty and the needs of the poorest sections of society,” Chakraborty said.
The Congress has announced plans for a statewide agitation against the budget and other policies of the BJP-led central government.
Chakraborty also criticized the state government, accusing it of encouraging lawlessness.
