Agartala Jan 06: A violent attack was carried out at the residence of CPIM Narsingarh Local Committee member, Tapan Shil’s residence last Saturday night, sparking a wave of political condemnation.
The incident took place in the late hours of Saturday night when a bomb was thrown at the CPIM workers’ residence that left a big hole in the wall of the house and caused severe damage to the property.
According to Tapan Shil, the attackers used abusive language and warned him of severe consequences.
“While the entire family was terrified, my daughter fell ill because of the sound of a bomb blast. We informed the police immediately but they arrived the next morning. Also, did nothing to arrest the culprits so far”, said Shil.
The CPIM member accused local BJP- activists of staging the attack.
On Monday morning, CPIM West District Committee secretary Ratan Das, Sate Committee member Pranab Debbarma, sub-divisional committee secretary Sudip Debnath, Barjala MLA Nayan Sarkar along with other Left leaders visited Tapan Shil’s residence.
Having witnessed the entire scene, the leaders assured necessary support to Tapan Shil’s family.
Talking to the reporters, Senior CPIM leader Ratan Das strongly condemned the incident.
“With BJP government in force, complete lawlessness is prevailing in the state. It is high time the present chief minister must establish rule of law”, he said.
Das further added, “Such incidents of attack on opposition leaders and supporters’ residences reflects BJPs desperation and their inability to tolerate dissent. Our struggle against such tyranny will only grow stronger”.
Ratan also slammed the police department for ‘arriving late at the scene’, ‘showing negligence’ and ‘inaction’ even after several hours of the incident.
The CPIM leaders called on peace-loving people of the state to raise their voice against such attacks.
