Agartala, Feb 10: Biplab Kumar Deb, MP Lok Sabha from West Tripura Parliamentary constituency, raised concerns over the deteriorating condition of a portion of the Assam-Agartala National Highway (NH-8) in the House on Monday.
He urged Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to take immediate steps for a permanent solution to the issue.
Highlighting the importance of NH-8, Deb emphasized that the highway connects multiple states and plays a crucial role in the central government’s Look East Policy.
He pointed out that the poor condition of certain stretches is causing severe transportation difficulties, affecting trade, commerce and daily commuters.
Following his statement in the Parliament, Deb also took to social media to reiterate his concerns.
He wrote, “I have drawn the attention of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari Ji in Parliament today regarding the poor condition of some stretches of the Assam-Agartala (NH-8) National Highway and the resulting transportation woes. I have urged for a permanent solution on a priority basis.”
The NH-8 is a lifeline for Tripura, which ensures connectivity with the rest of the country.
