Agartala Jan 1: Narendra Chandra Debbarma, Revenue Minister of Tripura as well as chief of Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) passed away on Sunday, despite all efforts of the doctors to save the veteran tribal leader of Tripura.
N C Debbarma, around 85 years old is survived by his wife and five children.
Debbarma was admitted at the GB Hospital Agartala on Friday last in a critical condition, after he had suffered a brain stroke.
The minister went through complex brain surgery by a team of doctors under the supervision of Dr Siddha Reddy and was put on ventilator at the ICU.
However, despite of best possible medical care, the veteran leader N C Debbarma breathed his last on Sunday.
For several months, the oldest member of the Tripura state cabinet was seen away from active politics also did not take part in any party meetings or programs following several physical ailments.
Over the decades, N C Debbarma is known to have immense contribution in tribal politics of Tripura and was involved with several regional parties including TUJS, Tripura Hill People’ sparty, Tripura Tribal National Council and the ruling party BJP’s ally in Tripura, IPFT.
Condolences poured in from almost all the political party leadership on the death of the Minister.
Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Manik Saha expressed his deepest condolences on the death of his senior most cabinet minister.
In his social media post CM Dr Manik Saha wrote, “Deeply saddened by the passing away of senior member in the state cabinet Shri N.C. Debbarma today. My condolences to the bereaved family. May the departed soul rest in peace. Om Santi!”
