Agartala, Feb 16: In a significant move to boost the tourism sector, Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced plans to invest Rs. 500 crore into the development of key tourist destinations across the state.
Interacting with the media during the annual general meeting of the Tripura Working Journalists Association at the Agartala Press Club on Sunday, Chowdhury highlighted several ambitious projects aimed at enhancing the state's tourism infrastructure.
He said that the state government will demolish the Eden Lodge in Jampui Hills to construct a new three-star hotel, which is expected to provide increasing tourism demand.
Besides, the government plans to introduce adventure tourism initiatives such as bungee jumping and a toy-train in Jampui Hills with the help of various government schemes, the Asian Development Bank, and other agencies.
Addressing a long-standing concern, the government has allocated Rs. 70 crore to develop modern stay facilities in Unakoti, including log huts, adventure tourism amenities and guest houses in the Sonamukhi area, all to be built to international standards, Chowdhury added.
He also highlighted ongoing developments, including a Rs. 52 crore project in Chabimura, which is expected to be completed within the next 18 months. Besides, a modern park will be built in Jirania at a cost of Rs. 70 crore, while eco-tourism initiatives are being planned on three islands in Dumboor water reservoir.
As part of the conclusion of the annual general meeting of the Tripura Working Journalists Association, Bimbisar Bhattacharya, Director of the ICA Department, handed-over the certificates to the participants of the association’s photography competition.
Speakers emphasized the challenges faced by journalists, including infrastructure issues and discussed strategies for strengthening the organization. Several schemes to enhance services for journalists in the state were explored, with a focus on supporting their growth in the evolving media landscape.
